Hermetic Wings

Hermetic Wings

A Poem by Doodley
"

To fly me to you.

"
If from wishful thinking, in a world of despair,
Devoid of Life's love, bereft of her care,

Could you ask thee one wish to resuscitate your heart,
To beat back the woes, turn Life into art?

Be it for riches? For glory? For the love Aphrodite brings?
No! I would wish only for Hermetic Wings!

For on a windswept cliff face in the darkest of night,
Would I beat those wings with all of Love's might!

To rise like a Phoenix, to the day, born anew,
To soar to the Heavens to look down for you.

To traverse the luminescence of green and blue seas,
Carried to you on the midsummer's breeze.

And what; should I find you in an unfamiliar land?
Well, I'll flutter down beside you, a sentinel to stand;

To be your eternal glow worm as the day fades in light,
To provide you with warmth on the cold, Winter's night.

To soothe and caress all the aches of your day,
To kiss you Goodnight when your head down, you lay.

To guard you in stillness, or in restless sleep, hence,
To slay all the demons that your heart shall dispense.

And whereupon such a time as the stars flee the night,
I would beat up those wings and take to my flight,

To fly to my sanctuary on the cry of a Loon,
Pausing to greet gently the dying man in the moon.

Once back on that cliff face, all tired, happy, spent,
I would fold up the wings that the Angel's had sent,

And stare into beauty, in the sunlight afar,
And know that I love you, wherever you are.

Author's Note

Doodley
This poem was written in such haste that I myself was shocked at its birth. At 3am, in the darkest of pre dawn, did i spring awake from my sleep, jump out of bed and start penning this poem. Proof that we are still thinking in a semi conscious state.
All comments are appreciated.

"Hermetic wings"
Doodley,
Wings. The aspect of the power which is displayed within them. Emotion, desire, motivation, dedication and the strength to communicate a undying love. I really loved the image of this line:
"to fly to my sanctuary, on the cry of a loon,
Pausing to greet gently, the dying man in the moon."
Blessings,
Kathy

Hello, Doodley, this was a fun read. I enjoyed the rhyme and flow. The first sentence was a bit much for my tired brain. Haha... Seems you would do a lot with your wings. Have fun. :)

A beautiful tribute to a love far away, be it due to death, relocation or just losing touch. Valentine's Day is not all hearts and flowers as it is depicted; the day brings sorrow and heartache to those whose love is no longer with us. Grief is a powerful emotion and can be timeless. Your word play, rhyme and rhythm are flawless as usual. Thank you for sharing this with us. take care...dan
