Destiny

Destiny

A Poem by Doodley
"

The great unknown.

"
Could it be my destiny,
To drift alone on a cloudy sea?
To cut ragged swaths through grassy plains,
To dance alone in Autumn rains?
To gaze in thrall into the Polaric eye,
As I stand alone beneath a starry sky?

Or could it be my destiny;

To be the soul of flame in eternal fire,
To rage alone and forever higher?
Or to kiss the sun with my jagged beak,
Atop the world alone as a mountain peak?
Or shall I be forever alone,
A gargoyle sentinel of timeless stone?

I do not know. I cannot say,
So I travel along my winding way;
Until Life's dusk in her fading light,
Illuminates my mind to a greater height,
And with infinite wisdom will then I know,
If the point of destiny was to come and go.

Just a poem. A little unorthodox in style.

Any comments greatly appreciated.

From the melancholic to the sublime, from the banal to the lofty, you have struck gold in your latest and it again is befitting of your legacy here as a poet. High on philosophical opium, 'Destiny' as a concept is both complex and enticing, a conundrum that has the ability to have everyone come back for second helpings. And your poem has that appeal. Simple in words, but profound in intent and content, I enjoyed the individualism that is celebrated at the climax. Take a bow, you are an immensely gifted poet and I am proud of you.

Best wishes,
M.

Thank you for reading and reviewing, Valentine. I appreciate the kind words.
This poem was rich with words and true emotions. I like the way you have asked yourself the question Is it my destiny ? That repition of line made this poem very strong in tone and rhythm. Loved the last line. I believe in the fact that we are the makers of our own fate.

Thank you for reading and reviewing, LapseOfMind. Glad you enjoyed this simple piece.
NOT just a poem Doodley... This piece is deep and profound. It is an in depth look into the thoughts most of us all ponder.. particularly in times of stress and despair.. It delves into the depths of time and space, so to speak. A study of humanity, life purpose, dare I say, the unraveling of our very destiny..

Great write Doodley..

We wander all our lives, trying to understand destiny and what it has in store for us.. Maybe we are not meant to seek but to be sought after... This is a thought-provoking write up.. Nicely penned 👍

Doodley,
Great message, for the life really is in the living. Just live, just breather, just enjoy life. End line is great"Point of destiny was to come and go." In our life-span as you point out "I do not know, I cannot say>' We do not know everything that is for sure and do not possess all power. Kathy
