Creature Fear

Creature Fear

A Poem by E.L.C.

Fervent flames flicker

Bickering with the dark city,

Illuminating the wasteland

Feral vermin are all that remain of propriety

Blemished gauze wrapped around putrescent skulls

They crawl, ravaged--turned savage

Marked by vertical streaks of sanguine

Scrounging the gutters

Searching for the beating flutters

Of the vital organ as it stutters,

 Ever awaiting the constant arrival

--Of creature fear.

An oldie piece I recently revised. It's an ekphrastic poem inspired by an untitled painting by Zdzislaw Beksinski.

This has a very dark, apocalyptic feel, you bring us right into that feral feeling, I could feel my shoulders hunching forward as I read, becoming possessed by your words. Will have to check this painting out as well.

It's like reading Edgar Allan Poe writing with spice of Darwin style. It would make Clive Barker proud of it. Lol

You Sir, are far too kind--you risk inflating a girl's ego :P
what's ekphrastic mean?
"blemished gauze" is nice.
Gauze is such a disgusting word.

They are a fun type of poem to write.
I bet you could drop a seed on concrete and it would flourish, for your words find the cracks within my soul tickling emotions I thought were just fertilizer for my final resting place.. This piece dilated blood cells, making me turn around in fright only to see the shadows of your talents.. You might be hundreds of miles away but your touch haunts me..:) Awesome write my friend!!

There's something beautiful in the cruel stating of the fact. Nicely written.
