Shoeshine Boy 1960

Shoeshine Boy 1960

A Poem by Gee
"

Changing times

"
"Clean ya shoes sir ?"

" You take a seat son"

They talked as the businessman cleaned,
passers by pointed, whispered,
shook their heads, frowned.

" things will change son,
for the better, you'll see.
Might take a while,
but sense will prevail."

He helped the boy from his seat,
overpaid, and left.

" Thank you sir, thank you........."

His voice trailed off as he watched the man disappear into the crowd.

Thank you...
A cathartic deed that is in keeping with, but not limited to, religious practices. (The washing of feet) Both boy and businessman were rewarded, but in different ways. A good lesson for all of us.

Cheers Samuel
The man sowed a seed of compassion that may bear fruit later. This writing has such a mystical touch to it.

Thank you kindly ma'am....
Keep! All of my seven uncles were dirt-poor shoe-shine boys and Golden Gloves boxing champions before they enlisted
' to get a better life', and served in WW2. All of them survived. They learned those survival skills on the streets of New York City. Your wonderfully touching poem put me in mind of them. I hope some good-hearted men showed them this kind of generosity. R.I.P. Great poem Gee- brought tears.

Keep. There is a lot here for the discerning reader. Undercurrents we can pick up and wonder at.

This I like and it reminds me of either a tale I have heard or a movie I have seen? It has soul just like James Brown who was a shoe shine boy as were the ex presidents of Brazil and Peru and Malcolm X, among other famous folk.
