Into the Woods

Into the Woods

A Poem by Inaya Khan
"

A journey

"
I'd lived since forever in the meadows,
Under the comfort of the nurturing shadows.
The mossy thatch, my abode,
And my company- the noisy hoard.
I was good. I was happy.
I was everything I was expected to be.
Until one day, when the woods beckoned.
Lured by temptation I walked within;
And the darkness swallowed me in.
And here I am;
Where time passes unreckoned.
The brambles scrape my skin raw
Each day my courage begins to thaw.
The curious eyes keep watch.
Hawks and jackals. Snakes and Vultures
Slithering and fluttering at each misstep.
I knew them once, they'd tried to help.
And then clawed at me and drove me to the ledge.
My heart thuds incessantly, but I continue to tread,
Carefully, Hopefully
Because they'd said, at the end of it is the glorious vale,
Where I'll be home atlast, hearty and hale

Author's Note

Inaya Khan
It's been long since I last wrote. So I guess I'm kind of losing my touch. Any suggestions to better this ...I'm all ears. Also I've put on some changes taking into consideration, suggestions of my non-writerscafe friends. Thank you so much guys especially Prateeksha :)
Also this piece pretty much portrays what I'm going through in life. But it feels incomplete. I request you guys to help me improve upon it. The title too may seem a little misleading .Any suggestions for that too I'm open. Thanks in advance. :)

A beautiful write, Inaya khan! Life is a journey which is never all roses. And this poem takes us on that journey through your beautiful descriptions.we tread on a path that is relatable. And you end it well with the human expectation on an optimistic note.. This is my first read of your writes..I am glad I chose to read this first... Thanks for sharing...

You are welcome.
Nice use of metaphors. Just the way life is. Lots of brambles, thorns, jackals and hawks... but we move on hoping to find the elusive valley.

Thank you Ashish:)
I'm glad this piece connects with you too
This is an excellently vivid piece of writing, Inaya. I don't know that I would change too much of how its presented here, personally!

I think the title is apropos; what once made you happy and brought you serenity has now appeared to swallow you up in thoughts and feelings in contrast to how it was. The title definitely fits as the feeling must feel like walking "into the woods" from whence you were prior.

From me to you, Inaya. I definitely enjoyed this as I can relate to it in some fashion. :)
