A Poem by Aurora

Cheated at birth
When the Gods
Blessed them
With the power
To change futures
And create
Music to
Sway masses
To millions

Cheated by Fate
She cursed
Them with
Monumental
Talent
And growing
Fame and infamy

Cheated at life
They had
Love of their legions
Of swooners
And their crooners
But none
To go back
Home to

Cheated by fame
They rose
To touch
The sky
Got burned
By being
Stars themselves

Cheated by death
They took
Their lives
With guns,
Liquor
Drugs

But remain
Alive and vivid
To this day

Their poetry
And music
Throbbing
Like blood
In my veins

At 27
Janis
Kurt
Jimmy
Now Amy

Crooning
"I cheated myself,
Like I knew I would,
I told you I was trouble,
You know that I'm no good".

oh my goodness Aurora .. one of the most poignant and meaningful tributes I have read ... the tragedy of them all cheating is solid street savvy and spot on .. they took their own .. cheating themselves and fans of what most everyone would agree could have been so much more ... loved them all .. rebelled, loved, drank and smoked with their music .. glad i did not miss this one .. great job says i!

Let's hit the bar tonight and order a shirley temple and some daquaris!
The age of 27. We lost many great musicians. I believe many reasons. I believe if you can see everything. Life can frighten us. Powerful words shared Aurora.

I guess that is one way of looking at it.
I grew up on Jimi, The doors, and Janis and loved Kurt. I taught at the same music store as Tom, Amy's guitar player. (you should hear him play Aretha Franklyn on piano). "Loneliness is such a drag," as Jimi said. I'll bet they all felt that way in the end. Who knows what they could have given had they lived. All gone too soon.

Cool anecdote.
Too many lived by the credo...live fast...die young...leave a good looking corpse. Too bad, there were some genuine talents there...didn't know Winehouse's music but some of the others yes. I've heard she was good.
Troubled souls all who for whatever reason came to no good end at 27

A good tribute poem here.

Yes very sad. For me especially Amy Winehouse, so I love the way you incorporate the lyrics. And you are right they have immortality in death. I guess they also lived short but productive and exciting lives whereas most of us simply listen to them!

Holds out the peace sign.
Exceptional talent comes with a price it seems. They caught the comet's flare but were handed the self destruct button, and used it. All of them will be remembered for years, but when I think of Amy, she was something else. She was an incredible talent and we have been denied what she could have further achieved. Tragic. Many will be crooning I cheated myself for a long time. What is it about the age of 27? Makes you wonder doesn:t it? Cheated, yes they were. Cheated of a long life.

and others..Morrison, Brian Jones...25 in all.
Cursed...
Yes..Too many and all too soon but what they accomplished and lived touched so many lives I dare suggest that they were almost self-destined, I would imagine most would say you must burn bright and unafraid although it seems as if so few of them were happy at all with their lives...but yes..head lowered with respect for their lives and accomplishments and with such talent you've written a wonderful tribute. Thanks~
