These are a few of my Old Ageing Things

These are a few of my Old Ageing Things

A Poem by Norman223

My version of "Happy Birthday to Me"

Creaking and aching from sundry rheumatics .

Finding your memory's now quite erratic.

Trying to think where you've put anything .

These are now due to that old-ageing thing.

Struggling to lace up your shoes without falling.

Complaining that everything modern's appalling.

Tinnitus making your head and ears ring'

These are more views of that old-ageing thing.

Having to read books in large print editions

Struggling to rise from a sitting position

Then being too late  when the telephone rings

But it's hard to eschew these old ageing things

When you're feeling unappealing,
Sick and sorry, bored and sad.
Reflect if you will, that you're over the hill
And now you feel twice
... as bad

Not up into the 80s yet, but slowing rising in age as we all are. You failed to mention the added wrinkles and the hair greying or falling out. Plus looking into the mirror and seeing a complete stranger. I sometimes look and want to ask,"who to heck are you? Valentine

I tell you, getting old is way too cruel. Even though you've got about 18 years on me, your every word in this rings true. If only poor Ponce de Leon hadn't died before finding that fountain of youth!
An excellent poem, Norman.

Happy Birthday! Not that these disgusting markers need to be celebrated after about the 60th one. I love this message. The rhyme & rhythm are singing even if the meaning is about sagging. I've felt so many of these things already, I'm not entirely enthusiastic about living to reach your amazing milestone, with all the incumbent gripes you've so brilliantly detailed here so that I can almost feel each ache & unexpected trip! Your playfulness is off the hook this time! (((HUGS)))

At the age of 86, I use the challenge of writing, as an optimistic attempt to delay senility. I prefer humour, as while I can still laugh, I feel that I'm succeeding. more..
