Unaccompanied and Unacceptable

Unaccompanied and Unacceptable

A Poem by Poppy Ruth Silver
"

Written after learning the Conservative party voted against the UK accepting 3000 unaccompanied child refugees from Syria...

"

Like baggage

they are discarded

no-one's problem

it seems

like a disease

they are turned away

no one cares

it seems

the Conservative party

deem them unfit

to be rescued and cared for

I shudder at the thought

that so many people

won't or don't speak out

about such genocide

it is not their fault they exist

in times of programmed

malicious decline

their hands are soiled

from the actions of elites

their hearts are broken

from the silence of humanity's peak

like baggage

they are discarded

left to fight for themselves

as the world battles on regardless

like a parasite

they are shunned

no parent hears their call

nor witnesses their flow of tears

no future will they have

if we do not overcome our fears

wrong is wrong

money aside

the earth has become borders

lines drawn in bloody sand

wrong is wrong

money aside

this earth is not ours to claim

their tiny footsteps have a rightful place

yet their strength wanes with painful echoes

like a disease

they are turned away

if not today, when will we learn

this legacy will be our shame

I'm not one to go into politics. People are so judgmental about political views these days, you can be equally demonized by people on the left and people on the right for having an opinion different than theirs. I won't go into my thoughts on this subject, I'll only address the poem itself. Your message is loud and clear, and the poem done in free verse was the best choice for said message. I appreciate how short you keep everything, every line is meaningful in its own way. Good work.

Wow. This poem is heartbreaking. The compassion for humanity is remarkable. It is so sad to live in a world were human beings decide to solve their own problems at the expense of others. Hope lives in these words.

Absolutely LOVE. I really felt you speaking out against the evil in general in this world today. Stay strong hearted and minded. This world needs more caring individuals like you.

My wife is an immigrant, though now a citizen. I went through three years of hell fighting my government to get her here. At the last I had to hire an expensive lawyer and put myself in hock for years. Luckily, she was one of the good ones and let me make payments. I wrote a poem about it called American Embassy of Horror. I met people at the Embassy who could not afford a lawyer. One had been married for 11 years and had two children by his wife in Vietnam. Thank you for sharing this. I really liked it. Wolf_Lord ,'', ^@@^ ,'',

Poppy, A heart-wrenching tale that makes compassionate people wonder what has happened to our world. As you probably know we have an a*****e presidential candidate (Trump) who very well may be elected; he not only wants to bar immigrants but also wants to deport those who are here legally; and this country was BUILT by immigrants! Innocent Syrian children who know nothing about why war happens are, like you say, discarded like old shoes. It's a damn shame and I thank you for hopefully raising awareness with your work. I'm really not religious but to you I say, "God bless you." take care...dan

Indeed Dan, I hope for the benefit of humanity he isn't elected...it is a shameful time in many ways.. read more
I appreciate your empathetic words...providing shelter to deprived individuals is always the optimal thing to do, but such actions are pushed aside so we can support ourselves first. This is a sad reality of life.

You are most welcome Poppy Ruth Silver.
A very strong and powerful poem, written in a very beautiful way. Short lines, each conveying a clear message.
It is strange that most people hold humanity above all but the politicians do contrary to what the people want.
