Hjörþrimul

Hjörþrimul

A Poem by Poppy Ruth Silver
"

A warrior returned adapts to modernity and finds truth within themselves...

"

She was a warrior
before she returned
her sword her oath
wielded for justice
modernity recreated her
into a different warrior
now her pen delivers
the strike to her enemies
of which the shadows are many
each negative thought struck down
left to writhe in mud
each depressive notion
swiftly at the mercy of ink
left to shrivel in the light
modernity recreated her
into a different warrior
ink replaced the sword
now she writes in blood red

learned something about Norse mythology, a valkyrie. this being a personification of "The pen is mightier than the sword". the modernity spilling truth & emotions to paper now. tough imagery with a positive, cvonstructive transformation. this captures and holds. very cleverly constructed. "ink replaced the sword
now she writes in blood red" - indeed well put. there is a lot here with a wonderful deepness. i really like this one ...

Hmmmm, these tasty morsels of power, enwrapped and engaged with underlying strength from choice and decision. Though swords have been replaced, words are contained within, a paradox of will.

Thank you hon :)
I love this piece, although a small suggestion: try re-working the last sentence from "blood red," to "red blood." it may further your warrior metaphor. I do love your work, wish i could follow you around for a day and see your method of writing. you are never without words.

Excellent parallel drawn between a warrior of battle & a warrior in writing. I love the way your message can apply to the way we choose & engage in our fights differently as life goes on, sometimes fighting smarter instead of harder. I also love the way you make the pen sound like a mighty adversary! *wink! wink!*

Smiles...smarter being the word...response not reaction...you beauty you :) Thanks hon :)
Sacred ponderings of this fierce sword warrioress transformed into a deep, dark voice of ink. What a powerful sifting of these lines, of time passing, of life rising around her. There are warriors all around us.

Thank you Cascara :)
Pen is mightier than the sword?

I like the interpretation.

Now adays, we can not unsheath a sword to prove our valor, courage or dedication, but we can stand up for ourselves with pens against tyranny and oppression.

The modern battlefield is indeed virtual and literary - a battle over ideologies, which re-writes our past, enslaves our present, and shapes our future.

Good stuf, Poppy.

Also, cool album. Gonna put in on my playlists :P

While I was reading this, I thought of the show Vikings, so imagine my excitement to seeing Lagertha at the end, haha. I really like this.
