Fading eyes

Fading eyes

A Poem by Strawberry Evil

I look into your old eyes
Your face is wrinkeled
And you have a tear in your eye.

Please let me get away from here

Your hands are cold and pale
I hold your hand, you squeeze mine
Your eyes start to turn gray.

This isn't living anymore

I feed you, I sing to you and give you meds
You can no longer do things on your own
The tear runs to your cheek.

Can you hear me

It feels like something's stuck in my throat
It's hard to breath, looking at you
As you slowly stop breathing

It's my turn to leave this time and space, thank you for taking care of me, everyone.

I hear you loud and clear
Even when you haven't spoken in days
I hear you crying in silence.

Only by looking death in the eyes
Can we accept our own immortality
Rest in peace, you are no longer in pain.

I like this poem. As I read it, I thought of so many deaths in my live, the passing of both beloved humans and pets. Your line, "Your eyes start to turn gray" reminded me of my one dog. I stared into his eyes as he died until his pupils widened and his spirit left him.

Well done

Very well done, Strawberry Evil. This poem does a great job at conveying the narrator's emotions as well as describing in detail the deterioration of life.
