Same Wavelength

Same Wavelength

A Poem by barleygirl
"

my friendship with Norman . . .

"

Where Big Ben begins the earthly spin
a slight spry friend writes witty as sin
shared memoirs our youth restoring
as I wake up he’s ready for snoring.

I’m often scandalous, he’s mostly tame
nevertheless our wavelength’s the same
we’re just a couple of old snowbirds
honing memory as we craft our words.

Up there on latitude fifty-two
summer can be a cool dreary stew
but here its Mediterranean toasty
I’m wrinkled brown, he’s a bit ghostly.

He married forever while I chased a flame
nevertheless our wavelength’s the same
beats doddering over puzzling crosswords
waxing poetic despite lacking two-thirds.

Taking his lady on a cruise ‘cross the seas
I get my kicks scribbling verse on a breeze
he’s flown all around and even down under
I trekked mountains in pursuit of thunder.

Even when odds are hopelessly jacked
a whole world away, opposites attract
despite our disparities, correlations amaze
quite unprompted we turn a parallel phrase.

I wonder how many of us share a wave length like this with someone far a way. I like the contrasting of different lives over so much time. Really, though do you really want to spend your life so high on the map and cruising the seas would get old...maybe not.

I may well write a poem about that! :)
' but here its Mediterranean toasty

Wonderful rhyming, wonderful meaning! There's a real sense of joy in your words, they're cohesive thus seemingly true as true.. you draw on the where and how, touch on the who and where.. and that final line is special.

This is a mixture of wit and some quite lovely lines. It is to your great credit that the mix is seamless.
