A Poem by barleygirl
"

Allman Brothers = my favorite band

"

I miss his flowing long blond hair
but the lyrics of my youth live on
offering up a “Rest in Peace” prayer
I can’t believe Gregg Allman is gone.

His growling voice infused the blues
the original southern rocker
a sad legacy of party and booze
robbed the health of this gentle talker.

Gradually growing better with age
he just finished his final project
as a songwriter he was life’s sage
upon his bridge we could all connect.

I’ll never forget the song “These Days”
how he moaned his lifelong regret
the pain he wailed my life betrays
expert musicians improvise each set.

Southern blues with a rock infusion
pioneered by Allman Brothers band
it’s hard to accept this sad conclusion
but each life is only built upon sand.

awww ...what a sad refrain and tribute to your favorite band ... they were certainly pioneers and representative of the road of so many bands ... the tragedies, forming, dissolving, and reforming that happens even today in the music world .. a motorcycle enthusiast myself i vividly recall the deaths of Duane and Berry ... hard living and strong emotions have taken too many of our music talent ... :(

A touching tribute I must say!
But when we look at them they seem sort of immortals as they leave something. And sometimes a lot in the form of their art sometimes even touching many generations born after them.
A sincere R I P prayer, Margie.

Beautiful words... I can feel your pain through this poem. The world seems to take the best people from us. I love how the beginning opened up like a love poem because you hadn't yet revealed who the subject was. Even though you weren't "lovers", this is still very much a love poem

How beautifully your words flow with sacred reflections of the song that carries on still, even after the divine instrument was silenced. You help us ponder the music, the nature of its wonder, and help us also see the fleeting light of life itself.

Seems so many went "home" at the end of last year and this year brings no different news, the reality of our icons being mortal is one of a shock in these times...they gave us memories and shaped us in some ways...beautiful tribute x

I saw Greg many times--some from the front row--and have friends that knew him well. As a drummer, I played his songs for decades. I also met Butch Trucks many years ago at a bar and was shocked to see him die in such a way.

The music world is losing too many greats. Our generation is watching them go one by one. Greg will be missed dearly but remembered forever.
