Did He Notice?

Did He Notice?

A Poem by barleygirl
"

true story . . .

"

This autumn skipped ahead to a frisky brisk
my crockpot’s bubbling a thick squash bisque
pardon this pause in our bracing fall days
as Father Sun sets the sycamores ablaze.

This late Indian Summer crept up on me
swapping hot coffee for a lemon sun tea
gradually the fervor began to penetrate
as a mellow fellow stood at my front gate.

Offering his thanks with a careless hug
my insides fired up a mean jitterbug
barely grasping the gentle of his touch
my thermostat clearly popped its clutch.

I couldn’t tell if it was sizzling or chilly
goosebumps swept my spine all willy-nilly
as fiery flashes painted red splashes
my mind traversed some wicked whiplashes.

I gasped when he offered a dinner invite
my vision periphery turned frosty white
lavender emanated with scented lotus
can’t help but wonder: Did he notice?

Author's Note

barleygirl
Indian Summer = a late heat spell in autumn
Yesterday it got up to 105*F (40*C) here, but I didn't even notice the blistering heat as I was standing at my gate being invited to dinner for the first time in about five years . . .

ohohoh! :) You are reminding me of old crushes and dinner dates. That fluttering, butterfly, and frogs in your stomach. lol. Thank you Barl, for painting the picture so vivid. I love this lines; "pardon this pause in our bracing fall days
as Father Sun sets the sycamores ablaze."

oh ...he noticed all right ..noticed or dead says i! i have been following your blistering heat my love ... Indian Summers are spectacular in my book .. i remember one January in SD we were putting on wood shingles on a new home ...the temps -20 and less in the wind ...when we were about half done it was in the 60s ... ohhhhh what a joy ... great fun rhyming barley .. especially spoken to by "my crockpot’s bubbling a thick squash bisque" ooooooooooo yummy!

' Did he notice? ' You must be joking!

You write such happiness in your poems.. arms full of finely laid words, apostraphitic (new word) touches of absolute charm, cheekines, a touch of 'how's yer father'... and that great though brief ending!

This is a kind of BYO poem - I read lots of spicy euphemisms in it but it could also be quite 'Pride and Prejudice' stlye innocent if read another way !

I love the way you give me a guy's perspective on these things! *smile* (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
Sounds like things were getting hot over there! The quirky rhymes somehow went quite well with the tone and seeming starstruckness.
