How Good It Feels

How Good It Feels

A Poem by barleygirl
"

so worth it . . .

"

My bare toes grasp the jagged rocky outcrop
as I count down wordlessly, eyes unseeing
vowing to begin my invigorating soar soon . . .
and suddenly swooshes of air lift my hair
spontaneous chopper blades swirl at my sides
nearly-vertical cliffs become blurred
as the gorge waits to swallow me whole
waiting . . . waiting . . . waiting . . .
the utter shock of cold hardhearted water
spanking random patches of flesh
before total immersion dims the lights
the blanketing chill warms up slightly
suffocating immersion mixes thrill with panic
hesitant about hitting rock bottom
sensing the turn-around point
flapping my return to the surface
all sense of direction masked by a cloud of bubbles
air, I’m surrounded by air, but still can’t breathe
finally . . . finally . . . finally . . .
my head pops up, hair plastered back
welcoming a huge gulp of water-drenched air
gobbled up like God’s love and acceptance.

That’s what it feels like when learning
to live one’s own authentic life steadily.

I couldn't help myself but to be so freshly involved with this wondrous poem. I know it is about your younger days but for some reason for me felt like in a past life (if you believe in this :-)))Maybe 1800. It was like I was watching you, like a movie but inside it, feeling the fresh air as I wait the young Barley girl return to the surface.

Superb word choice and flawless ending. FLAWLESS all together.

I hope all is well with you, darling

A scenic and breathless write with vivid details and great word pictures. Your talent is exceedingly otherworldly and mundane at the same time. Kudos.

Thank you so much for sharing my experience! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
We all walk our own paths but so often hold hands with people who come near.. sharing observations, sharing opinions, learning about them as we learn more about ourselves. Your view of the natural world and what it gives, the trials its lays or the beauty it provides, day in day out.. is so heart.warming.. Don't you think we learn as we go along, singing dancing, tripping, falling, rising.. somehow!? Your write happiness in word moods and music, Margie.. tis like a symphony of i've done it, been there and boy to quote.. I enjoyed every minute of the ride, every way possible.. with clamour and with calm. Bootiful and more, dear you. xx>

Such images of falling through the time
it takes to hit the surface far below.
Will she splash or spat to end this pastime?
It seems so long that we my never know.

But finally you move us to the next
Excruciating panic of the bubbles.
We don’t know if we should be pleased of vexed,
while waiting to sort out the pending troubles

At last! A gulp of precious needed air;
we know now that the rocks have lost their prize.
To show us your success and plastered hair,
and see you wipe the water from your eyes.

I’ve never tried adventures like you did
But I jumped from a bridge once as a kid.
