Sycamore Troubadour

Sycamore Troubadour

A Poem by barleygirl
"

photo = out my back door

"

As autumn daybreaks crawl closer to frost
riverside sentinels grow more crisscrossed
with splatters of tawny topaz and gold
as brittle leaves murmur and blue-jays scold.

Each crunch and crackle deeply resonates
tossing open my nostalgia floodgates
imposing limbs sway as fluttering flora soars
a crooning tribute to my sycamore troubadour.

Echoes of his voice ever gentle on my mind
with past and present only loosely entwined
lyrical squiggles lure me into romance
as hungering harmony spurs spirits to dance.

Each nibbling nudge sparks my imagination
I simply can’t relinquish this infatuation
each moment I’m tangled in his melody
our heavenly waltz is where I want to be.

If your sycamore starts to travel you might want to put that cork back in the wine bottle. (laughing) But I suppose your attention can travel to all the adventures coalescing there. I enjoyed the visit to your backyard. Hmm...that didn't sound right. Oh well....it's a reviewer's risk.

Impressively metaphorical and amazingly lovely. You bring all the senses to bear and enjoy. No cut and dry in your passions for all.

You are welcome.
Your words paint such a lovely picture. Not just of the sights, but the sounds that accompany them.

I was just about to mention 'those autumn leaves' when I saw that Norman beat me to it. One of my favourite songs (which I play on my alto sax!). As you have shown so well nature is a rich vein for poets to mine and 'spark our imagination'. I suppose the seasons are a particularly strong metaphor for our human condition and I guess autumn may resonate with poets of our 'maturity'. This is a cracking poem you have written with lots of subtle and (to me) slightly opaque references - for example 'sycamore troubadour'. Great work!
All the best,
Alan

Your poem, Margie, graphically brought the words of this old song back to me, as I watched our garden being virtually covered in Lime, Apple and Oak leaves as autumn is giving way to winter. With the lack of rain, the crackle underfoot creates its own autumn symphony, soon to be replaced by the rake's coda.

Aw, you finally getting into winter. Dancing in the wind. It's the new rage. Do you get the snow where you are, Margie. Got this impression of you out cutting logs for winter.
