Being Neighborly

Being Neighborly

A Poem by barleygirl
"

in bad taste with our gun-control uproar . . .

"

We’ve known the ogling ogre next door
crossing orbits pique curiosity
dilapidated domain or hoarding eyesore
we swap doubt and animosity.

City folk cram into crowded habitats
rocking their fragile harmony
give me space to screen border spats
so chumps can’t crash my serenity.

Way out here in the wild boondocks
freedom is our prized amenity
we don’t encroach one another’s sandbox
the only way to co-exist peacefully.

Country folk sidestep rules like dog s**t
our lifestyles invite no scrutiny
some of us grow or build sans permit
thanks to communal impunity.

A potential newcomer too tightly wound
might disrupt our chill community
we’re all packin’ heat so don’t mess around
or we’ll teach you to be neighborly.

It's easy to see, when you write this way.
That you were born on Independance Day.
You make your own rules, you live your own style
Even your poetic musings beguile
Others collaborating so , they too defy the status quo.
But I loved the message ( and the rhyming)
Coupled with the political timing.

It is americas greatest invention to create the suburb lol Problem with us is we keep expanding outward till the city dies and suburb becomes the city.

dear Margie... I can appreciate the invasion of neighborly squatters. It can be humorous up to a point. One neighbor said to me, "notice you have two hoes for your your garden. My hoe us broken!" So naturally I gave her one of mine. I think that was invasion of my privacy. It escalated to more serious invasions. A hoe is a hoe in more ways than one. Lol. Actually febcesbdo make good neighbors. Now my husband plans to plant blueberries and grapes on our side of a fence at our new home. It is the only sunny spot in our large back yard that has full Sun, since there are tall pines on most of the property. We will be invading their property when the grapes tumble over the fence. Life is tuff. truly, Pat

Oh Margie, I just loved this piece!! Thank you for cheering me up on a blah Monday!! The humor, the swaying, sauntering rhythm just like a shoot-out at OK Corral. I feel you too on the topic.. living in the South. As per usual, your word choices and original descriptions paint a rich story. Love it!!

Don't like those strangers. In my young days. I befriended people. Who allowed few in. Hard to gain trust. Old ways are cool. Need to built bridges to open the doors of friendship. I enjoyed this tale. Thank you my dear friend for sharing the amazing poetry. I enjoyed this one.

There is a huge difference between the way city folk and country folk treat their neighbors. Not sure I would want to be isolated in the country, but then again it's not wonderful to have others minding your business. "Country folk sidestep rules like dog s**t" Now THAT made me laugh out loud. My hubby thinks I am losing it...laughing at the computer. As always, your rhyming is flawless. I enjoyed this look at the two sides of life. Lydi**

The best kind of neighbours are the ones who live close enough to wave, but far enough out of talking distance. :)
I will post a pic later to prove this is true, but my neighbour bought me a doormat that says f@@k off on it. They know me so well :)
