A Chapter by Debbie Barry

Written in 10th grade, a poem about existence.

January 3, 1985

Most crucial to Man,
But not to Man only,
Most precious to us,
We worship it high.

We worship and rule it,
But have ne'er conquered it.
Our dreams and our now
Are encompassed by it.

We call it our own,
Yet ourselves make a part;
We own it and claim it,
But are its from the start.

It is all-encompassing,
And all-encompassed,
It is the great Ego,
Both Alpha and Omega.

For Maressa - Is this not the very lesson you tried to teach me in later years? With love.
