Moonlight Litany

fabled ghostwalkers of the midnight:

come steal my corpse by the moonlight
come take from beneath this crimson quilt
come away to some nether to be rebuilt
come with haste and hallowed speed
come like phantoms in these hours of need

come rip head from torso
come reap curse from ripe stalk
come tear truth from actuality
come twist fate into fantasy
come tonight
come tread light
come robed
come spritely-white

come tepid wraith
come timid creeper
come spectral waif
come wistful reaper
come legend
come myth
come spirit
come un-pith
me

come soft
come oft
come morrow aftermorrow

fabled ghostwalkers
come what may
come devour me before break of day

Ooh, so haunting, romantic, beautiful. I love how you draw inspiration and then elevate already classic poetry to an even higher level.

I love the hurried desperation, as the author clings to dark at the slightest hint that day might be breaking. The lure of the night is comforting at introduction, but an intoxicating need once tasted first.

As always, your word choices are beautiful and elegant. Your timing, phrasing and rhythm impeccable..

A truly masterful talent you have. I love reading your stuff and am ever inspired by it. Thank you again for another hauntingly romantic and beautiful piece!

This was absolutely amazing. I'm so impressed with the wording and rhythm. it's like a whole new halloween poem made to be spoken at midnight by the fire. A whole new haunting to watch out for. The ghost of words in the night. Thank you for this awesome read ^^

Thank you Dan!
I am soooo freakin' jealous of your amazing wordcrafting! There are too many delights to mention, but: "come soft, come oft" might be a fave! So subtle, yet meaningful. Since I've written about a dozen moon pieces in recent weeks, awaiting the blue moon (last night), it's a clear delight to find an approach that never even crossed my mind! Your writing is the height of originality! Thanks for reading me, so I would be prompted to read you (sorry there are so many good writers on this website & I'm forgetful, so I don't visit everyone I wish to!) Plan to keep comin' back oft & maybe not soft (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I loved this piece, I could feel the tension palpably built with each line. I loved the repeated first word as it gives the structure to this piece almost song-like flow. I particularly enjoyed the second stanza. The title was phenomenal and appropriate as well. I loved this poem!

Hailey, another exceptional work from you! Such incredible imagery and emotions in this one. I also like the structure and the pace, increasing urgency at the end, less reflecting and more pleading. Like all of your work, it became richer with each reading. I'm a fan!

A wild ride in your words. I liked the feel of mystery and the calling for the fable ghostwalkers. The words seeking unknown and final place. Thank you Hailey for sharing the amazing poetry. I did like this one.
