A Chapter by Hailey Juliet

. . .

. . .

something like the snow-capped
conifers conferring and con-
spiring out in that fluffy field
beyond the frosty pane
four feet from my face

green-black caked-in-white
spires staking me out.
so far no moves, like you
just waiting in the wings
whispering to yourself

or something like that soft
sticky snow we used to throw
back when we were children
playing in the trees
behind the school gym

you fly in and over
giving me those looks
like, i know you're watching
dialing in, setting your sights
adjusting, waiting, or something

like that time you hit me
smack in the face with that
snowball, hard-packed and icy
and i fell back, already
crying, and laughing, i mean

it was funny, until it wasn't
and then it was, all over
again.  somethings i miss;
like, 'where are you now' and
'i wish you could see this'

. . .
