ONE CELL

ONE CELL

A Poem by Jeff Bresee

Run

As fast as you can

Red shades of dismal

Flowing fear

Melt to the glass of sand

Hide

In the hollow hidden dry

Drink down the spell

Of earth and hell

Indifferent to the sky

Lie

Forever unseamed

Face down amidst

The death of sound

Black holes of melody

Sleep

To the blood of setting sun

From spiral dreams

Look down at what

One cell has now become

I am always so amazed, how you are able to create flawless rhyme and meaning in once. This is something, I can re-read and re-read.

Hi Jeff,

Ah yes, all these feelings, emotions, and complex behaviors. What have the one-cell organisms that started life evolved into? We're such complicated beings, and to have arisen from the extremely simple is so remarkable. Nice thought.

Best regards,

Rick

My favorite thing about this piece: the rhyme within the non-traditional rhyme. Of course there's depth to what is being said but the point is given strength by how it was written. Great write, Jeff.

ah this was eerie and enchanting, and I like the way you ended this, it opened up a whole new thought seperate from the poem, and made me wonder what exactly this cell had done/become...

remind me why you aren't published again?

This, for some reason, reminds me of the picture I saw recently of a glacier melting and some microorganism is giving the water a blood red color. Makes it look like the glacier is bleeding. Great write. Feels almost like it could be a song as well.
