detour

detour

A Poem by Khatoon Hazara

the great thing about detours-
the sidewalks-
the branches,

it makes you a denser person-
the stray marks on our souls'-
the faint smudges of time,

love can both enter and exit-
the delicate string of flowers-
pinned on a leash,

beckoning to our every whim-
calling out orders-
yes, i too have been stunned by its' grip,

its' calling-
its' ways-
dancing on my demise,

the ashes-
the tender soot covering my face-
its' trophy
