Shadows Of Doom/By Sami Khalil

Foretelling of a doomed world

Now with bliss of ancient dominions briefly remembered

Uncertain as lamentations of child’s shipwrecked words

Oh, Chroniclers of sonorous bombast and feeble blithe

The sun shan’t see her lofty tabernacle above dusty herds.

Time and time again in dwindling of peace witnessed coarse

Where foredoomed spires and domes grieve the fall of lords

No brides to marvel, no bridles of incendiary evil to scythe

While lilting, winds turn dusty fields across the spindrift wards.

An overgrown child at heart found to breathe a bit morbid

Where shadows of doom can trace their lost fellows’ sherds

With fits of spells no heartless one can endure the writhe

Bodies lain on darker days to girded vultures and rumpus birds.

It's sad how the shadow of doom is so perpetual, surpassing time, holding on, visiting all generations, sparing none, the chronicles seem to have a monotonous ring don't they. I could never get enough of your eloquence, Sami. You're a beautiful poet. Always love to bath in the glowing charm of your words and ponder over them :)

It goes without saying that this poem is eloquent and elegant as other reviewers have said. I always expect that of your poetry. You have expressed a general sense of disquiet and foreboding that is more troubling than overt fear in a way. Very nice writing!

Too often we ignore the red flags...the danger signs...that are in front of our faces. The good times can be shadowed by memories of the less than wonderful times. Powerful poetry, Sami. Lydi**

Very chilling words... the path to dangers has many signs.. but too many are too busy looking at the path to notice.

Your poem compels me to think about events, such as Aleppo.
