This Hopeless Path of Love

This Hopeless Path of Love

A Poem by Tessa Melendez

We'd only met for a week
Neither of us one the other had hoped to seek
A meeting of pure chance that turned into a half-hopeful dance

I immediately knew how he felt
Such a cruel hand Love had dealt
Such a sweet boy
And Love is treating him like a toy

Love blinded him and tossed at my feet
Making sure he'd never really see me
Never be able to understand why I want to pass him by
How I wish he'd been shy

His feelings were written all over him
Showing so clearly to me
Beautiful and terrible as sin
Something that can't be

I could see the hope in his eyes for something he thought could be
But, it won't
As much as it hurts us both
I could never hope for something with someone so cute and sweet

He's fallen too fast
It could never last
I've been there and done that...
Too many times

If I let him hope
Allow him such thoughts...
But, I could not
It would mean the destruction of his perfect heart

To know he's younger than me
Already dreaming of marrying me
Dreaming of holding onto me for eternity
That is a thought too terrifying

But no matter how many times I explain:
I never want to hurt him like loves before
It would make me hurt so much more...
The argument is only in vain

It only makes him hurt
Feel even more down in the dirt
I no longer know what I can do
His heart is a mountain I cannot move...

Only crack

I cannot push him away
Only hope that someone will lead him astray
And never let him return to this hopeless path of love he found
And let each crack in his big heart be bound.

For a great guy that fell too fast and too hard and can't seem to let go.

This is so beautifully painful, that love can make the soul come alive, and yet bring it such darkness. You've expressed it with a tenderness, with a caring heart, and with words that only hope to bring healing somehow. Powerful.

Thank you for reviewing. I hadn't exactly intended that sort of message, but I can see it applying .. read more
Sometimes it just isn't meant to be, no matter how much one wants it to be. It would be far harder to give false hope and fail later, than it would to let them know it just cannot be.
