After Dark - Chapter Two

After Dark - Chapter Two

A Chapter by lawrence bear

China's Fall

Smoke billows out from a chimney, unaware of the howl that now reaps in the wind. Inside the house, a kettle cries out. The big red Labrador lifts its head; its ears prick up looking toward the door, growling. The man takes his kettle off the stove, and the dog now on all fours, is restless and growling at the door.

“What’s the matter girl?” the man say’s pouring the water into his cup. “You hear something?” he walks toward the door and reaches for his gun. “Damn coyotes, are they after my chicken’s again, huh girl. Okay girl, go get ‘em.” he opens the door.

The dog barks as she runs off into the darkness, he hears her barking and then two animals fighting as they meet, the grunts and growls.

“Get ‘em girl. Rip ‘em to pieces” He shouts and he walks out from his house.

Listening to the fighting, holding his light to where he hears them, and then a loud pitch of an animal’s last cry rips into the night.

“China…” only the wind fills the air as it blows through the trees. “China girl… come on girl.” His light shines into pure blackness.

Then it catches something on the ground… but can’t quite make it out.

“Oh my Lord, China…” he runs toward her, but stopped dead in his tracks.

I was always a fan of short chapters like the books James patterson do. Really loved this chapter XD

A short chapter. Poor China. I like the situation in the chapter. Men who lived in the forest know little fear. I like the way you ended this chapter. A excellent chapter.

This all has an eerie feel to it. Hope it wasn't China all torn apart.

I like the sight and sound imagery in this.
