After Dark - Chapter Thirty-Five

A Chapter by lawrence bear

Darkness awaits...

The driver looked dreadfully to the sunset and his heart quickened, his eyes looked toward the dark shades on the path; how they seem to grow and extend its evils arms in its wake. He swallowed hard, tugged at his collar and snapped the harnesses like a whip, “E-Yah!”

The carriage rolled on two wheels as it rounded the corners, and into the fog that mysteriously ascended. Mary-Anne was frightened as she was tossed from side to side and she screamed for the driver to slow down, but he did not hear her, he did not hear anything but the thundering of hooves. It was though he were possessed, a crazed man as he were nearly standing as he continued to whip the harnesses and shout at his horses. The shadows stretched longer towards them as the sun dropped behind the mountains. As they rolled down the gloomy path; the fogginess and blackness swallowed them whole, the horses wailed as they disappeared in the mist.
