A Chapter by Dave Brown

Because it was very cold outside

I went to the fireplace

When I opened up the door

There, I saw a friendly face

A friendly voice commented

How nice it was to meet

And would I be inclined toward

Some friendly warming heat

With my friendly response

It attended to its task

Tho’ shortly it disappeared

Behind a smoky mask

As the fire’s crackle roared

I heard his friendly voice calling

As he confessed to me

That living in a fireplace

Can sometimes be appalling
