Duck Luck

Duck Luck

A Chapter by Dave Brown

Duck Luck

As I was walking by the lake

The wrong route I did take

I fell through bulrushes into muck

Landing beside a wee startled duck

We exchanged greetings, most pleasantly

A most encouraging situation to me

A man and a duck, stuck in the muck

I felt it must be a sign of good luck

So we bought a lottery ticket to share

And crazily, we became the lucky pair

Since I paid for the ticket, I kept two thirds

Which duck agreed with in no many words

We took adjacent rooms at the best hotel

And retired after a four-course meal

When I awoke, things didn’t go well

Cause he’d skipped town with the whole deal

I’ve now taken up duck hunting longside the marsh

An activity I know, sounds unnecessarily harsh

I have even used lottery tickets as bait

But my efforts have been quite fruitless to date
