Kindness

Kindness

A Chapter by Dave Brown
"

yes

"

On a wire sat an Owl

In a hungry mood

Back and forth, his swivel head

In a hungry mood

Mouse in long grass

Also on the search

Fails to appreciate

That Owl on its perch

That little Mouse

Though quick upon its feet

Kindly makes a hungry

Owl’s day complete

One of my favorite things is when people just accept that the owl eats the mouse. There's a ton of that going on all around us, but we still try to deny it. Growing up a country girl, butchering animals with dad, I just didn't get that sentimental gene, I guess, as we would pull a butcher-paper-wrapped package out of the freezer with some name "Corky's Loin" or "Oinky's Ham" *smile* I love the weird ways your mind runs (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Owl's got to eat too ya know- We are all predators. EVEN TO OUR OWN SPECIES. Not a lot of animals out there eat their own kind. Imagine that?

Well, as Mr. Darwin might have put it, Chomp! There are the quick and there are the dead and sometimes only attentiveness separates them. By the way, are you getting any smoke from Washington and Oregon?

There is a beauty in the starkness of nature and I appreciate poems which resonate with this. Also, this poem reads easily, you hit very nice cadence and rhyme scheme.
