Road Hockey

Road Hockey

A Chapter by Dave Brown
"

yes

"

When I was a little guy about 10

We lived longside streetcar tracks

In endless wartime apartments

Where kids came out of the cracks

‘They’ were slowly converting to busses

With tracks ripped up block by block

New pavement went down, all super smooth

And roller skates were the new way to walk

Hockey was the main game we played

Block by block, long the newly paved road

Too soon the traffic returned, and busses

Which were now what we daily rode

Those wartime apartments are now gone

And who knows were all those folks are

I always think, how only memories remain

Each time I drive by in my car
