Holly Hangin

Holly Hangin

A Chapter by Dave Brown
"

😀

"

When holly's hanging loosely

And wearied oven’s are bakin profusely

With slaphappy spendin trendin obtusely

And desert is choice chocolate moussely

When dark of night seems extra bright

Happily heralding an incoming flight

And all ground round is wintery white

Sparkling beneath brightest moonlight

When legions of lights all wrap round

When a chilly change swamps radio sound

While a packed sled hopscotches earthbound

And all problems are enjoyably drowned

When comes the bright burning ember

Molding merry moments to remember

With wishes wasted to be ever slender

Durn likely it’s well into December

wow, Dave, this is us. This is Christmas in the now...The holly is uncomfortable...we have become so commercial with all of it.
I remember Christmas as a kid in NY...a few presents...but the train around the tree...
Christmas Eve decorating it...how exciting it was to go purchase a real tree...
for a few dollars...
the big dark blue, red, yellow and green lights on that tree.
singing Carols....Midnight mass as an altar boy.
Simple Christmas, and remembering what the day was really about.
Not long lines on Black Fridays.
this is clever in presentation...makes us smile through the pain.

You put me to shame! Here's your hunky-dory happy-go-lucky screw-the-torpedoes holiday ditty, surely a ploy to shine a scorching light on my bleak black scrooge-like approach to December. I can promise you, I will never write a poem as punch-drunk-happy as this! But I love this about you, even if I lack it severely (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
