A Chapter by Dave Brown

Holding the door widely open

I helped usher out the old year

As far as I could see

There’s nothing keeping it here

With 365 chances to get things right

It squandered ever chance

And as it walked on by

I gave it nary a glance

While the world welcomes the new

The animal kingdom goes on as before

Knowing not of old or New Years

Nor of my open door

Rain falls, sun shines, trees grow

Earth carries on as it always has

It is only the great destroyer, Mankind

That cares at all about the razzmatazz

We do have a habit of making the story all about us and caring little for what we do to everything else on the planet... And that includes some things not even made of meat, like oil, fossil fuel, the Arctic... The list goes on. Maybe one day we'll get the message that we're not the centre of the universe and are actually just on the naughty step, we'll away from where we can really mes things up.

And to you too Dave.
Oh yes, it had 365 days to right itself or write itself...and it did neither well.

Since you opened the door, I will open all the windows as well, there is a stench in here ...
But the aroma of the New year...that is promising.
