Grab and Run

Grab and Run

A Chapter by Dave Brown

Walking toward Tim Hortons

With coffee on my mind

To settle my shaky nerves

After the daily grind

When I reached for my wallet

What I was to find

I’d left it somewhere else

Which unbalanced my state of mind

In a fit of mad coffee frenzy

I hid along the pathway

Intending to grab someone else’s coffee

When it was my way, they’d stray

This to cure my coffee craze

With no cash outlay

Hoping for a good conclusion

To my end of day’

Seeing a sipping soul sauntering

Toward me on their way

Carrying coffee in each hand

On a loosely held drink tray

I saw a chance for grab and run

Which would be simple child’s play

Thinking to just take one cup

And then be quickly on my way

Hiding later in the woods

With success a pleasantry

Pleased I’d solved my coffee craze

And got away scot free

But of course

Success has no guarantee

And instead of coffee, what I’d swiped

Was some really awful tea
