Waiting Just Ahead

Waiting Just Ahead

A Chapter by Dave Brown

I left a flower with her

A wild country rose

A last token reminder

Of the life we’d both chose

With my saddle bags filled

I looked off cross the plains

Then with a long last look

I gently flicked both reins

The horizon stretched so far

As though it would never end

It would take forever to cross

For now, I’d just pretend

I went I know not where

Wandered endlessly, aimlessly

Until I crossed a last mountain

And stood before a great sea

Another horizon lay far ahead

But this time I could see

I could see her just there waiting

Waiting just ahead, for me
