Beach Boogie

Beach Boogie

A Chapter by Dave Brown

While walking along the beach

Being careful to not fall

I thought I saw dancing seashells

And I’d had no alcohol

Hustling up and down the shore

Their Loco-Motion quite replete

Soon joined by the Beach Boys

All doin the Hully-Gully beat

Clams and oysters doing The Frug

Hermit crabs Jived in their shells

Doin The Swim just off the beach

Honkey-Tonkin through rollin swells

Barnacles did the Jitterbug

Seaweed Frugged in salt sea mist

Octopi in four pairs of dancing Shoes

Did the Bee-Bop and the Twist

The Tide Rock and Rolled to shore

Cool Cod did The Swim

The misses Calypso’d us some water wings

And we both Bumped right on in

We swam the Mashed Potato

Hitchhiking Dolphin on our way

Then joined Minnows in The Freddie

On the reef, beside the Manta Ray

We finally settled back on the beach

In the comfort of sun and warm sand

To listen to the liquid music of

A passing Baleen’s baby grand

Your writing has the "aroma" of some classic, romantic (in the literary sense) poets like Longfellow. The topic (nature) the steady rhyme scheme (abcb) and the regular 4-line stanzas throughout depict a world that is perfectly ordered, content, and cheerful. I swear, your poems are medicine, Dave!
