A Poem by Dylan McCarthy

Mindlessly we wander ice-locked paths

toward the amber brick tower.

Harlequin hurling rings on branches

whilst the flautist speaks a mournful tune.

A gaze upon the vein of travelers below

from our lofty chamber haloed by night.

Penning songs for a dream empyrean

who culls her words from a gospel on love.

Searching for meaning in the scribbles

from drunken hands lost in malaise.

Contemplating tokens of nostalgia

now the fragmented charm of younger days.

Waiting for the midnight-blue excursion

between the guises of privacy.

Longing for the confident reminder

as we’re trapped in a room of memories.
