__Dear Uncle Charlie__

Don’t do it

that’s what Uncle Charlie writ

Well I am

every day can’t help it, damn

tick tap ting

licking line strikes soul soothe sing

go to bed

 rhythmic rhymes entwine my head

pon my wake

i drink nights brew, jot the ache

do not care

of pride fame gain, draft compare

all I crave

capture compose haunts ablaze

grateful heart

that taps his soul to tear apart

I think Uncle Charlie would definitely approve. It’s compulsion he wanted, and your words here tell me that’s what wakes you and tickles your mind at odd hours. I feel guilty reading his poem though, haha, and like I’m a fraud for working on poems beyond the initial burst. He’s a stern mentor that can kick me into the write frame of mind for sure.

I hadn’t read that poem in ages. I forget to read Bukowski because I find him heavy sometimes, but it’s always good to be surprised by his frankness now and again.

Anyway, I like your poem to a poem. You offer a different slant. Balance. Maybe that’s not the right word. I really love the last line. It resonates. Keeps ringing after the reading is done.

Wow! This is so good, I like your style in this write, Not every word needs a full proper ending like write, I like how you used "writ" for it has a proper fit. So nicely written and done. I enjoy your style.

chuck and i have a love hate sorta relationship:)
wasn't sure if this was Uncle Buck or the cocaine blues either Charlie will do, he also said,
"take away my typewriter and all you have left is the sickness that started me writing in the first place," you have that sickness, B, great poem

he he I love Chuck but often times I wish I could go back in time and jack slap him:)
Great poem, Robert.
What has to be done needs to be done. Curiosity like an inferno is not something that can easily be quenched.
I think Uncle Charlie has to understand this.

Well written.

This is an awesome poem. Haven't read you in a couple weeks & now I've read 3 of your recent poems in a row . . . what stands out: how it seems you've branched out more & more, as far as offering varied writing styles (but still with your strong style) & interesting topics. Everything is so fresh & unique, just like you are (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I had not read Uncle Charlie before coming to your page. So first of all thank you for introducing me to him.
Now that I have read your words and have caught up with the eloquence of your writing I congratulate you for your devotion and passion towards bringing out the soul of his work into yours. :)

Yes my friend I’m afflicted with it always what the heck does uncle Charlie know anywho:)
I read Uncle Charlie's poem before I read Bunny's. You've been caught by the madness I can tell. Where you are writing poems in your head in the middle of the night and the bloody drum beat won't leave you in peace. If I don't capture it in writing there and then on waking it will be gone. It's compulsion that drives you. Would you have it any other way?

This has a defiant quality but also a tinge of regret and perhaps guilt that the protagonist writes compulsively at all hours of the day and night when advised not to do it. I love the story this tells and the hint at this relationship.
