Give Me Your Ox

Give Me Your Ox

A Poem by Robert Trakofler (Bad Bunny)

__Give me Your Ox__

The acquaintance of my covetous

avarice gratuitous

In utterance of the exodus

or was it the governess

Can’t recall just who instructed this

felicitous fussiness

If divinity constructed us

vision thus lascivious

Usher us covenant cover up

carnal call carnivorous

Solicitous sin of substances

should we be herbivorous

Forgiven us insectivorous

one of us omnivorous

The gravitas seems so frivolous

this governance venomous

Ollie, ollie, oxen free. Sorry Bunny, oxen come in pairs and that's no yoke.
I believe I am an omnivore, though I have eaten a few insects in my time. Divinity may prefer frivolous gravitas...how else to explain the senseless stupidity.

Good one, Rob.

Yes, yes, yes!! I love this - such a clever play on alliteration and rhythm. I could easily snap my fingers in time with the words but I think I'd much rather pound my fist to a drum or wall in a long hallway, something that will project a sound and feeling just as strong and satirical as the piece. Wonderful work!

Alliterative phrases like "felicitous fussiness" make me smile when I read your poetry, Robert. I am a proud omnivore. Of course, I have become insectivorous while walking in the dusky humidity filled air here. The gnats are not all that tasty! Who told us to eat the animals? Hmmm....not sure about that. I mean, the cave men brought home dead animals to eat according to history books. Is being a carnivore godly? Hell if I know! :) Always fun, thought provoking, and mischievous...your writing is a pleasure to read. Lydi!!

hahaha, you are a mad man, but I like it,
If I didn't know any better I'd say you've been watching clips from George Carlin. If you listen to 5 different preachers talk about the same bible verse you may get 5 different interpretations, each with something similar.

I'm on the fence myself. I've believed but saw nothing. I'll keep an open mind though.

I know I'm outnumbered on this site, but I am still a practicing Christian. I feel the frustration of others keenly, but, I see the message of Jesus as something hopeful and something of a guide in how I deal with others. I guess the key phrase there is the message of Jesus which is very different from the message of the church.

Now, if we are talking about the corruption of man, well. All good things are corrupted by those who see an opportunity to abuse them. The church used to forbid independent reading of scripture. Knowledge (understanding) is power. So, access to said knowledge must be controlled.

I get this poem. I feel a lot of anger regarding the ways men seek to control other men through their deceit and then turn around and commit the most grievous acts themselves. The world is upside down. You are right.

Thoughtful poem, Robert. And full of your signature flair.

i love veggies, but have to have my meats as well...it's survival isn't it?
again, luxurious rhyme and alliteration to make us smile while you make a point...
as Claudius said near the end of Hamlet...his end as well..."give me drink"
but then Gertrude said it as well...and oops..bye bye, Gertie Bye bye.

LoL as long as you don't covet it I suppose its okay:)
Should we be herbivores? Seems that more are thinking that way. I do like a steak every now and then. I have great debates with my grandkids who don't understand that if we don't eat meat then there would be no need to keep so many animals. I have to admit I don't like looking at butchered meat. I guess I am a wee bit of a hypocrite :) If I gave it up it wouldn't be from biblical persuasion. Written with your great rhythmic beat and clever rhyminess Bunny. Have a great day.
