On Clouds and Rainbows

On Clouds and Rainbows

A Poem by Robert Trakofler
"

A poem (free verse) I wrote for Vocal spoken word link in the writer's remarks section. I hope you enjoy!

"

I had, rainbows on my wall
when I was a boy
I always looked at clouds
trouble was
I was always looking at clouds
I often didn’t see

the things that weren’t rainbows…

But they did see me
Perhaps it was malice
or just jealousy
But soon my rainbows
turned monochrome

and I and the clouds
got lost in the obscurity
Of sorrows wake
cast in the conformity

Of capitulation

That boy became a man
that could no longer see
For many a year;
he spoke, without a voice
walked without choice

and lived without rejoice
till he no longer
seemed to be

And then one day
one very fine day
someone whispered
I see a rainbow in you
and slowly
he too... began to see
And those clouds
revealed themselves
and with his pen…

so did he
and all the colors
from all of his rainbows
flowed from his hand
And that boy
became the man
he had always wished
to be

How lovely, Robert. I’m glad they see you’re still sharing your poetry here. Your journey through night into morning is such an inspiration to me. I see your determination and joy in everything you write, even the more painful things. Remembering how to see beauty and more importantly not to be overcome by a sense of shortcomings in living within the beauty—this is what I strive for. Thanks for sharing your strength and your journey. I hope you’re doing well there.

Children make the best philosophers and know the truth. Then it is stamped out of them. Maybe you got it back?

I am still not as smart as I was when I was 10:/
And, with your pen and your voice you are once again able to see those rainbows you thought had been left behind.
The beauty of grandkids is that they can transport us once again to our childhood, and, if we are willing to let go others will see the rainbow within.
It takes a long time but eventually we can become the person we are supposed to be ... come to terms with that person and enjoy who we have become.

This one fits you Rob. I like it.

Well done.

Thanks, Ted:) LOL, I was a weird kid why should I be surprised I would end up as a weird adult:)
In life we need someone to boost ourself confit and make us feel as if we matter. That we can achieve what we want to achieve.

The use of the clouds and rainbows is a great image for this poem and thoughts that flow forth from it.

thanks, beauty creative expression is always a bit risky to drip our blood onto a piece of paper for.. read more
Seems your words - lit by your voice - start with 'Go' then, gently flow through an empty palette til comes the push up life's mountain has collected moments so magical they've taken rainbows from behind clouds. And, along with that, have smiled the empty past into yet more beautiful, wonderful, ginormous rainbows! Surely tis then self-worth taps the heart and mind and whispers 'You're you now, know it, stand tall.' Wonderful poem, Bunny.. wonderful. Keep safe, friends, take care. Please

thanks brother:)
Beautiful. I too went through this. From my childhood, I felt that I was falling… not becoming the monster I feared, but becoming nothing. Then, in college, the woman who became my lifelong best friend reached out and pulled me up, kept me moving forward, and helped me learn I was loved and could love. She taught me to trust love and led me back to faith. Because of her, I became the person with whom my husband would love and build our life and family.

She's also the only person besides my husband in whom I place complete trust of my son. She's his godmother and takes that honorific as serious and with as much dedication as she took bringing me out of the darkness. She taught me what family should be and is the family my son deserves.

My poem "Monsters (https://www.writerscafe.org/writing/MomzillaNC/1401584/) is about that journey. And, my poem, "My True Friend" (https://www.writerscafe.org/writing/MomzillaNC/1402222/) is in homage of that woman's herculean empathy and kindness.

Excellent writing Robert. Yes if we spend our time chasing rainbows we never reach them. But with a little patience the rainbow may come to you be it by something or someone. It’s about timing and a change in mindset. Anyway glad it came.

I hate that it takes so long, but life gets in the way. Need that job, that sofa, that house on the lake. None of those come with rainbows. This was a very cathartic trip...loved it.
