My Sorries Don't Mean Much

My Sorries Don't Mean Much

A Poem by Miranda Olsen

Not enough

The mistakes I've made are plenty
The list goes on too long

I owe most people an apology
But my sorries are dried up and gone

I never understood my elders
I was careless, and I was young

and never did I apologize
for all the wrong that I had done

I hurt friends and I hurt foes
I was careless and I was cruel

But now I've come to realize
These are the ways of a fool

God will forgive me
I know it in my heart

But to everyone else, I'm sorry
I know it's just a start

I don't know if it was real
I don't know if that's enough

After all, as far as I know,
My sorries don't mean much.

I saw sorry all the time, but do I mean it? I don't really know.

LOVED this piece. The flow, structure, everything. The ending just really hits you in the gut, like damn. We are all careless in our youth, and I think that is the beauty of this poem, everyone can relate to it, I know I did. Great piece.

Thank you very much. The ending was my favorite part, for sure.
The sincerity for redemption in relationships is stated in a very eloquent and apologetic way which gives true light and shine to your overall theme. I liked the risk you took with spelling "Sorry's as Sorries", it's an interesting way of bending the rules of poetic grammar, anyway though Great work, Miranda. A genuinely unique and profound read. :)
