Winter Wakes Me From My Sleep

Winter Wakes Me From My Sleep

A Poem by Miranda Olsen

Florida winters are short, but can get frigid

Winter wakes me from my sleep

The cold makes me feel alive

I feel a jolt of energy

Whenever the breeze blows by

My lungs feel like they're tight

It's getting hard to breathe

But instead of feeling fear

Everything feels exciting

Then my heart starts racing

It's beating out of control

I feel more alive then ever

The cold has made me reborn

Winter wakes me from my sleep

I get up as the sun rises

I wake up shivering and frigid

The start of many surprises

One morning the dew has frozen

Jack Frost has painted the grass

Winter is finally here

Though, sadly, it never lasts.

Sometimes it takes heartaches to make us appreciate what we have and how blessed we are to be alive.
