Mister Reaper

Mister Reaper

A Poem by Jamila
"

Sinatra Delusions.

"
Mister Reaper
Devil's Keeper
in his shower
of steam
and
flame
rasping tones
to rhythmic
bones
a cloaked
Sinatra
gone
insane
hitting
the low notes
with all he
sings
he's got the
whole world
on a
string
from
New York, New York
to old
Chicago
Paris, London
and even
Fargo
he croons
infectiously
a record of
fear
for him
it shall be
a
very
good year
you've got him
under your skin
and still
the best
is
yet to come
for all
the
world
is transfixed
hypnotised
by his
deathly
hum
he's
Mister Reaper
Devil's Keeper
with
golden tonsils
in
platinum
and in
endless
showering
droplets
shall he
stay
raping
the lungs
and
coming
my way
be afraid
for
I'm afraid
of his
dulcet death
tune
so
please
Mister Scientist
can you
fly me
to
the
moon?

Soon!?

You got three of my favourites of his here and that’s just what I love about what you did with them here!

‘I’ve got the world on a string’ ‘ the best is yet to come’ & ‘Fly me to the moon’ ~ never thought of hearing them sung in a shower in a low, deep throated and vile tones of the evil virus in the form of the grim reaper. He is surely on a roll here!

Awesome, creative twist here Jamila! I’m sick of all the virus poems galore and this was such a welcome break from all the moaning and groaning going on about the virus presently. The Reaper personified as Sinatra is certainly an original and interesting take on an ongoing disaster!

Kudos! Loved it & humming away! And stay safe you ❤️

I met the reaper three times. I learn, death comes when death want. Didn't want me yet. I liked the places, the people and the flow of thoughts. I want to go further than the moon. Maybe a place we can know some kind of peace. Thank you Jamila for sharing the amazing poetry.

The reaper always waiting and you are welcome dear Jamila.
I’ll give u a secret, haha, mister reaper can still get you on the moon haha. Scary fellow.

Anyways, your poem was good- the rhymes at first were really powerful. One thing you should consider is when you named cities, it sort of killed the magical part of this poem. It limited the reaper to this dimension, maybe you could go on about the universe or world or something. I dunno. Good write though!

Sitting on the moon for a couple of years with your favourite tunes maybe the way to keep the virus at bay.
In saying that, you might meet Trump who probably owns the moon, and you just know he hates Sinatra and his tunes. I myself will be heading to Mars where I'm told red dust is a reliable antidote to the virus.

One thing I value = bright unexpected things that writers say & this is full of that. First, do the younger generations even know who Frank Sinatra was? As an old person, I recognize your lyrical references, but I think only old people will. The most surprising aspect of your brilliantly farfetched idea-factory (your mind) is calling Frank Sinatra "Mr. Reaper" . . . that is about as far from expected as one can get. It's like you've taken this comfortable familiar hero from old times & re-created him into some unrecognizable incongruous icon of the ages. I'm not totally following this approach, but I love your inventiveness (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This poem is really unique about the Reaper. Death comes for everyone, it sure doesn't discriminate.

Such a good read. One of "those" poems that has you speeding up to see what comes next, and old blues eyes chucked into the mix too, loved it.
Hope you are safe and well Jamila.

Hey Jamila!
Been a long time! This is indeed a gripping poem. For the terror it creates in quite a novel and original way. How many of us would think of personifying the reaper as a great singer, crooning as a goes about killing people for fun. Well done dear Madame!

Wonderfully creative Jamila. I am a huge fan of Sinatra, both of his voice and his acting. Your titles cleverly woven into your lines took me back to my childhood home. My parents played Sinatra, Peggy Lee and Johnny Mathis religiously. Your Mister Reaper a unique way of combining current affairs with ol' blue etes. Well done.
