A Cat went to Sleep and a Jaguar Awoke

A Cat went to Sleep and a Jaguar Awoke

A Poem by Leigh

Such a sight of serenity

As you lay wrapped in your sleep
A feline so peaceful and warm

 Curled from head to tail
But this was no catnap you were having,

It was something more
You were having a super slumber

 To recharge yourself

And as you passed

The openings of your sleep
I heard a murmuring

Across your luscious lips

Your mouth twitched

As it tried to imitate speech

Was someone there?

In your afternoon dream state

Was it a lover of long ago?

Or one who has yet to be?
The smallest of frowns then

Emerged and developed
Someone was troubling you there

In that place far away
So then I wanted to go

In your mind and help you

For although I loved you so

I would not begrudge you a lover

Not in dreams anyway

So I gently whispered you a word of comfort

Suddenly you were still in your shock

As I was nothing but a voice

And I watched as your beautiful eyes

Span wildly beneath their lids

And when you awoke

 You purred around the camp
Your eyes flashing

Menacingly in the fireside

A Cat went to sleep

And a Jaguar awoke

And I knew later that evening

 I would hear it roar

I feel like I just walked into a Boer war. Damm dificult you think, being a Boer, when things get rough, with nobody to blame in the entire dark continent but yourself.

A thinking man may fear just two things Leigh. Not keeping a promise to himself and then getting a tongue lashing in perfect, crisp English from an Englishman. Its enough to make a man migrate to America!

Leigh this is a marvel in its construction. It takes you on a mental journey as you read it. I applaud you for writing something so poetically fulfilling and well thought out. It is not easy to write like this.

Cats are crafty
Wonderful poem for cat lovers everywhere...Cats DO dream, as do all animals....But to imagine their dreams...Oh that is another adventure entirely..I may do one of my own if that is ok....I loved this, and it remunded me of my late sister, who adored Cats to the n'th extent.....

Thank you for looking in
Love the juxtaposition of her two states in this.
Women have many moods. You never know from one hour to the next which cat you might end up with. :)

A good write, Leigh.
