A Chapter by Louis McKraker

The library at my grandparents’ house is huge. It is filled with books that are filled with everything about anything you would ever want to know.

When I was younger, I used to get lost in his books for hours, even days at a time. That was fine and good. But then I discovered a book in his writing office called The Compendium of Strange Dreams.

While there are so many books a person like me can get lost in; this was the first book I’ve found that I can actually become trapped in.

It is definitely the most frightening book in his collection--hands down.

When I first found it in his office last Christmas, it looked pretty normal. It was normal for him anyway. It looked like one of those leather-bound notebooks you can find at a renaissance fair or someplace like that.

Everyone knows he loved that sort of thing.

That book was anything but normal, though. That book didn’t belong anywhere in his library. Or anywhere in this world, for that matter.

If you are brave enough to follow me back to that place, I am going to tell you the story of how I found the only book that ever truly frightened me.

My name is Louis McKraker. I was born in Central Alabama and began writing at age nine. I don't have much to say about myself, except I'm a Piscean. I prefer poetry over prose. I love storytelling... more..
