A Poem by Siege Powell

Sometimes you have to walk away.

So this is it
The end of you & I
I'm sad to see it's over
But I guess it's time for goodbye.
Thank you for the smiles
For the laughter & tears
For the sporadically great sex
& making me battle my fears.
At one point I was so sure
that you were the love of my life
I should've known you'd never choose me
to play the role of wife.
This is the end
I'm finally letting go
I'm going to miss our silly car songs
& your smile more than you'll know.
I know I wasn't always the best
I have my faults, they're not small
Thank you for loving me when you did
& trying to see through them at all.
I'll miss our weekly talks
& arguments over race
I never could convince you
Every human has a place.
The night we ran through the water
was the best night of my life so far
So how did it turn into this?
Some horrifically beautiful scar.
I'm going to miss you my friend
Even though there's nowhere you've really gone
I've just grown tired of waiting for you
It's time for me to move on.
I wish you all the happiness in the world
I loved you more than you'll ever know
This is the end of our tug of war
I'm finally letting go.
