Earthworm Essence

Earthworm Essence

A Poem by barleygirl
"

inspired by Emmajoy's nuances of nature . . .

"

I go ga-ga watching plants grow
thumb so green clear up to my elbow
(could be a borderline braggadocio)
my hidden haven in a wild meadow
berries, broccoli, basil and tomato
sculpted fig trees my Michelangelo
pretties and edibles in balanced ratio
hovering horticulturist, a bug torpedo
blemish-free leaves, my manifesto
dirt dynamo squirms in his bungalow
writhing down deep where roots tiptoe
the earthworm runs a compost show
flinging fertile flecks of tasty guano
fresh-picked carrot crunches a calypso
my creepy crawlies know how to bestow
imparting an essence to savor with gusto!

Mother nature inspires many a write as does Emmajoy. I have just come indoors myself after spending a good three hours pottering in the garden. Getting my hands dirty and getting down to earth is what I love best. You have personified your earthworms and that made me smile. Getting that compost right is essential if you want your veggies to turn out well. Look after your creepy crawlies I say. Your lines rattle along at a fair pace Margie. Bet those carrots are tasty.

This is earthy auntydote to my melancho!y mopings Margie although I am also prone to delve deeply into my veggie patch. Oh for a garden where the veg grows as well as the weeds. Perhaps making friends with the worms is wise before we become more intimately acquainted. Hope All is well.
Cheers.

Ah the compost heap writ in such engaging terms. That smell is simply natural and earthy and sooooooo good for the earth as well as giving life to so many bugs. When I open mine I am assaulted by worms and flies and bugs who devour every last mouthful and leave me with life giving organic material.

This is amazing on so many levels, Margie!

I was all smiles from the first line. It's just how it is with these topics and with these emotions.

The playful, blissful, free-spirited language you often employ is always a pleasure to read. Your use of imagery is delightfully quirky on most occasions, but here you take things a step further, I feel. I feel so warm and fuzzy reading this! It's kinda like something out of a Walt Disney sketch.
But the best part about this is telling us about the works of another here in such a way.
I'm on my way to Emmajoy's profile now!

dear Margie... down and dirty makes a garden grow. Earth worms keep the soil fertile and
ready for "fishing" too. Fresh lettuce chilled from the night air... can be picked in your Nighty, if people don't stare! Let the chickens run around... if you don't live in town. Fresh eggs.... the Devil don't care...
if you like Deviled Eggs. I love my green thumbs "up" for your Poetry. truly, Pat

Not sure you are actually bragging, Margie. I think you Do have a green thumb and you and Mother Nature are besties! Can't say I've ever been close enough to a worm to smell its essence, but I did enjoy reading this....great rhyming! Lydi**
