Inferno Exodus

Inferno Exodus

A Poem by barleygirl
"

now have a mandatory evacuation notice, but still here . . .

"

Where are all the hairless chimps
all these rustic hovels are bare
we haven’t caught a lively glimpse
as heavy smoke chokes the air.

With pesky humans being so still
it’s a spooky lip-smacking time
toss a bloody body on the grill
and slurp us down some slime.

No busybodies with their machines
the shriek of leaves being piled
let’s harvest some bud by all means
good riddance to the flower child.

Everyone knows we were here first
scurrying through eons of hellfire
the hairless wimps are surely cursed
skewered on their own flaming pyres.

If they return or if they’re wiped out
it don’t make a diff to us critters
gotta blow out this human hangout
among laconic lizards we skitter.

It's kinda awesome here, soaking in the wilderness stillness now that all the other noisy humans are evacuated . . .

Margie: a great spoof on the way humans behave, and how they've ruined their own environment, cutting down trees, polluting the air, creating noise, starting fires... I love how you use such powerful words to get the point across...."toss the bloody body on the grill.." And, "we were here first..." very sarcastic and quite clever; those poor apes lost their hair, but lived!!! Love this! Hugs, B

LOL no doubt you are amongst those characters you cast Margie Barley Willis the hillbilly Lizard that refuses to skitter and would rather not filitter with her fellow humans jitters! but your bunny friend would not like you to fry if you don't mind for you have much more sublime to put down in lines

hi margie there are moments when we think we can escape from noises and only a deafening silence surrounds us. there must be a heaven in wilderness after all. I like the humor about the apes and the lizards so imaginative and funny too. cheers and take care

what an interesting mix Margie! as much evil as is done by humans there is also good .. but i see the animal's side your poem takes ... tho fires would still ignite .. with humans gone the habitat would return to a very natural state wouldn't it?! ..perhaps the cleansing is coming ??????????????????? fortunate for me .. at my age .. i am comfortable with that ;) incredible thought provoking write .. a unique point of view given on behalf of our brother/sister others :) peace and joy girl .. so happy to know your area is coming out of it at the moment. ... luv ya :)

so sad but you are introspective on the real effects. animals are innocent but not always the two-legged ones - saw on the news that someone started a fire by igniting fireworks in some weird new ritual of blue fireworks for a boy pregnancy and pink for a girl to celebrate.

your feelings on the matter remind me of what thoreau wrote,

“As the sun went down, I saw a solitary boatman disporting on the smooth lake. The falling dews seemed to strain and purify the air, and I was soothed with an infinite stillness. I got the world, as it were, by the nape of the neck, and held it under in the tide of its own events, till it was drowned, and then I let it go down stream like a dead dog. Vast hollow chambers of silence stretched away on every side, and my being expanded in proportion, and filled them. Then first could I appreciate sound, and find it musical.”

It's the eviction notice from upstairs that we should all worry about. Nuisance neighbours are only ever tolerated for so long. :))

Back in June I watched a fascinating video about the purifying effects of lockdown on nature. It charted how rapidly the healing process would obliterate all we think we have achieved; but it was the footage of clear blue skies over some of the hitherto worst polluted cities in the world that had the greatest impact on me.

Boy, have we got it wrong, or what!

Beccy.

We might live like chimps one day Margie if things continue down like that. We might flee and flee until we share with the beasts some refuge. We have destroyed so may things so nature is taking revenge on us. I guess Tesla and other great companies are racing to save the enviroment by introducing new technologies that are nature friendly.

I really enjoyed the poem, you really did convey the idea of us humans not deserving the gifts that our mother earth offers. masterfully written, props!

“HUGS” back, thank you for sharing this lovely poem.
it is uselessly sympathetic to take the side of the animals
There isn't enough of them left, constantly reduced in numbers
humans are too self-centered and stupid to change until it is too late
I have counted 8 huge apartments going up and guess what gets cut down to create space with more deer and raccoon etc becoming car grill decorations
