My Mask

My Mask

A Poem by eaglefeather

I wear a mask

But very few know

They believe what they see on my mask

They don’t see what lies

 just under neath the surface

Some have discovered what hides under my mask

They have learned to look past the emotions carved into it

The fake smile forever stuck

The lifeless joy in the eyes that have cried all their tears

The hand always held out for others hoping for one to return the favor

They have learned that the heart under neath has been broke and shattered time after time

They have seen the pain that brought this mask

But they bring me to match the smile on my mask,

So I will let the others keep believing in my mask

I will keep lending my hand to those who mask finally broke

or needs to be broken

Because I know the people who can see passed mine,

are the people I want to share my true joy with.
