a cumulus of angels

a cumulus of angels

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a cumulus of angels

martyrs find shape

in darkly clouded ruins

life of expendable interference

so others can prosper from faith

but the church steeples are below eye level

when beliefs are burned at the stake

and those who prosper from within

the ashes

can't find God

in what's left of them.

thank you for your words, gram,

It’s funny J , religion is confined to a goldfish bowl while spirituality is oceans wide and free. A clever write as always.

an even more clever reply....yes, the goldfish bowl and the oceans...

This might be the most stinging rebuke of religiosity that I've ever seen written so artfully in such a brief poem! There's gotta be some back pressure shoving out a poem like this! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

oh how I ponder these thought my brother forever I will ponder these thought I think no answer has ever reached my tongue to write just more angst and disparate observations:( one thing that always inevitably courses thru my mind is the severe lack of critical thought that seems to be as rampant an infestation as the bubonic plague these days:)

I think that what we believe is mainly how we act.... what we see in all religious belief is simply the acting out of those beliefs and the human toll is beyond belief.... what kind of belief is it that says someone or group or culture or race, etc is better than someone elses??? and more importantly why would anyone with a rational and conscious mind believe in such nonsense??? spin the globe and see, look deeply and actually see what great harm is done by such beliefs...

Jacob, your poetry shines bright in these times of zealots, christian, muslems, hindu, zionists, etc etc.... they all cover over the deeper crimes of system of capital-imperialism in my opinion.....

Church "politicians" have never been looking for God; manage only to subvert the faith of others.
Cold, dry ashes are their legacy. Martyrs refuse to deal with God through self-appointed
mediators. Jesus Christ is The Father's sole Mediator.
All else is Satan's "fake news."

yes, the "fake news" even strikes religion...
thank you, Jimmy.

This hits on so many points Jacob. Intelligent and creative stuff my friend. Something to ponder over even for an recalcitrant non believer such as I.

powerful! wow! closing says it all ... so much in this small package, jacob ... "...expendable interference"
how greed and avarice will take the soul and the body ... and burn it until nothing is left at all ... and for those who assume leadership in the Churches ... woe they do those and worse ... well said sir ... i may have missed your mark completely but ... that is what is read ;))

ps if Martin Luther were bent more poetic he may have nailed this to that door eh!? then and now >;[

he was a truth seeker wasn't he?! kind of ruined the Pope's strangle hold on such things ..
This reminds of our uniquely human abiliy to see faces and shapes where there are none. It may be some old hunter/prey dna left over from our ancestors, but remind me it did just how much fun cloud watching could be.
I think you may have been suggesting that looking outward might not be the best place to start in our quest for answers, and that maybe reflecting inward is where we should start our journey.
I used to think i was atheist, or perhaps agnostic, but changed my mind when i got a fright and shouted "Jesus", just like every other time i get a fright.
I sometime call on his old man too, but its pre watershed, so I'll keep this family friendly. 😀
