Reasons and other such things

Reasons and other such things

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Reasons and other such things

God finds his way out of the conversation

we stonewall theology

when dealing with the psychology of

leaving on our own terms

the gate may end up locked

the lost soul with no key

purgatory makes a new friend

but the sentinel waits patiently

the conversation eventually turns

and reason may not be sound

but the last heartbeats have intentions

as well as connection

God will turn on the monitor

and conclusion might

find an alternate ending

when some unspoken words

are finally heard.

Its like the switching on of a great light after a long interlude in darkness. Its warmth indoors, a fire lit up in a hearth, that we knew always existed and which we left to wander away for some time in the bitter cold outside. Its something we always knew and carried within us. Its like coming home.

Skeptics aside, logic and reason aside, one can feel it and one invariably reaches for it. Faith.

God has the final say, and He will stand upon the earth. My soul shivers under His powerful hand. May we be found faultless in His sight!

faultless, doubtfully, but forgiven, let's hope that is in the cards.

If we are forgiven then we are faultless in His sight. Always Jacob.
We embrace material reality far too easily I think. But it's understandable, a bird in the hand being worth two in the bush as it were; though reason/logic does tend to fly out the window in the dark of the night and under the influence of a creaking of floorboards.

Even the best led life will in the end need forgiveness; and as for purgatory, I am told there is an excellent and regular train service that mostly travels onwards and upwards. :))

God has his plans for everyone whatever it maybe, we all serve some kind of purpose. I've known you can't force the way you want your life to go, but can help it along by being headstrong and persistent in whatever you desire and makes you happy. Just know your goal is coming along in its time. Superb write.

thank you for your words, Fran,

i decided a long time ago that things do happen for a reason , and so it might be that someone else's need is greater than mine or the universe has a different plan for me ... whichever it is, i do know that since this reasoning i find iut much easier to move on from disappointments.

J., what I read in this poem is grace. It's the bridge we need in the times between faith and doubt. Only He knows our true heart, even those who exit on their own terms. Profound and wise.

He see all, hears all, even those unspoken words, so the story goes,so there has to be forgiveness, or else we'd never pass go.

I have seen many a person who has lived
both sides of the Coin... perhaps there is more
than one "force" controlling our thoughts.

thank you for your kind and insightful response, Pat,

Have thought similar at varying times in life, being a non believer, but lately my thinking has mellowed into thinking that, believe it or not, I have been known to be wrong before and admit that no one can be sure of anything. Perhaps that where faith comes into the equation.
On a wider view, each of our minds are a universe of opinion and untested theories, edited to fit our own feelings on such matters, all the while knowing that a lifetime can never be enough to truly know.
So in conclusion, I'm off to see if amazon sells any of this faith stuff that has evaded me thus far.
Your last line really strikes a chord, a dull thunk to remind me of the old saying that there's no such thing as an atheist in a foxhole 😀
