A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

5 a.m. News

i like my eggs over-easy

but my love sunny-side up

toast optional...

just a morning's touch of coffee

table full of unwritten verse

much like the bacon i tossed

when the keys refused to sizzle

but greasy words splattered my shirt

ambivalently ....

thank you, Nancy. Appreciate your visit and your kind words,
j.
Bacon is a necessity :) I can picture this piece in my mind perfectly. I enjoy coffee with my breakfast so i'd definitely be sipping some.

thank you for getting a visual, BLACKCRUSH...

Its good to know others have their rituals too Jacob and I'm in good company to know you too give your pen and paper a place setting for breakfast.
The coffee is the mantra whose presence gives us comfort, as we nourish body and exercise the mind.
Your keys refusing to sizzle is as doubtful as bacon refusing to too 😀

thank you for your colorful reply to this breakfast offering, Lorry,

Toast is required to sop up the yolk- then again, I don't listen to or watch any news but the local gossip when I get the mail. Even that needs something to absorb the goo. I'm imagining a typewriter covered in grease and it makes me smile. Writing is a greasy business that leaves tiny burns all over. Fun read.

Skip the breakfast, slide into lunch, a shot and a beer should do!

What a wonderful metaphor here. You truly are a genius when it comes to that. May greasy words continue to grace your pages, Jacob. I will eat them up! Lydi**

The poetry of life is in ritual, failure and perseverance. This is a magnificent example, and mirroring of that here , Jacob!

You do everything with great style--or, at the very least, with surprisingly attractive slovenliness.
Still, you must go through a lot of shirts.
Here's hoping you've got some amazing sunny-side up action
coming your way.
Clever metaphor, Jacob!

No news for me until later in the day. I like to listen to the birdsong and watch the movement of the branches of the silver birch outside my bedroom window. I like to lie there absorbing the sunlight streaming through the window in the sloping roof. So much light in this room. Have to have my first cuppa before I contemplate the stuff which will spoil the peace. Breakfast? More like lunch for me.

J., I'm familiar with mornings like this one, though I don't read or watch the news until after my first cup of coffee. Otherwise, my soft-boiled eggs and bacon leave a bad taste that leaks onto my keyboard. I'm grateful for the beautiful summer, sunshine and birds in the trees, though everything about the 5 am news says otherwise.
